The best metal venues in Madrid: a guide so you never miss a show

Madrid is by far the Spanish city with the most metal concerts. It's where Spanish heavy metal was born with Barón Rojo and Obús, and today there's hardly a week without an international tour, an album launch or a bill of local bands. The problem isn't finding shows — it's knowing what you're getting into: a 300-capacity club is a very different experience from a 15,000-seat arena.

Small clubs: metal up close

Rockville

Address: Av. de Brasil 3 (corner of C/ Orense), Tetuán Metro: Santiago Bernabéu or Cuzco

An old-school club with live music Tuesday to Sunday. Ideal for discovering up-and-coming bands and tribute acts with good sound and no crush. See Rockville's calendar.

Clamores

Better known for jazz and singer-songwriters, Clamores occasionally books hard rock and classic-style bands. An intimate venue with tables and a different vibe from the typical metal club. See Clamores' calendar.

Sala Silikona

Address: Plaza del Encuentro 1B, Moratalaz

Open since 1985, Silikona is a neighbourhood institution. The programme is irregular but full of underground flavour: if you're after local bands at bargain prices, keep an eye on it. See Sala Silikona's calendar.

Mid-size venues: the heart of the scene

Revi Live and Revi Space

Address: C/ de los Cavilas 4, Vicálvaro industrial estate Approx. capacity: around 500 (Revi Live)

If one venue has changed Madrid's metal map in recent years, it's this one. It opened in 2021 inside the Revirock studios, it's built by and for metal, and its stage has hosted the likes of Suffocation, Devin Townsend and Rhapsody of Fire. Sala Nazca

Address: C/ Orense 24, Tetuán (AZCA area) Metro: Santiago Bernabéu or Nuevos Ministerios Approx. capacity: up to 500

Well connected and with a very busy rock and metal calendar: German thrash, LA hard rock, Spanish bands… A great size for seeing a veteran band without losing the connection. See Sala Nazca's calendar.

Sala Copérnico

Address: C/ Fernández de los Ríos 67, Chamberí Metro: Moncloa or Islas Filipinas

A mid-size venue with plenty of metal and stoner on its calendar, and dates already booked well into 2027. A good balance between closeness and sound. See Copérnico's calendar.

Mon Live

Address: C/ Hilarión Eslava 36, Chamberí Metro: Moncloa or Islas Filipinas

The former Sala Penélope works as both a nightclub and a concert venue, with a large floor and good sightlines. It regularly hosts international power and melodic heavy metal tours. See Mon Live's calendar.

Sala But

Address: C/ Barceló 11, next to Tribunal Metro: Tribunal or Alonso Martínez Approx. capacity: around 1,000

Housed in the old Teatro Barceló, But is one of Madrid's reference venues. Central, with a balcony and the perfect size for bands that have outgrown clubs but can't fill an arena yet. See Sala But's calendar.

Large venues and arenas

La Riviera

Address: Paseo Bajo de la Virgen del Puerto s/n, by the Manzanares river Metro: Puerta del Ángel or Príncipe Pío Approx. capacity: around 2,500

La Riviera is probably Madrid's most iconic venue for big metal shows. Its famous dome and terrace make it instantly recognisable, and it's the usual stop for mid-to-large European tours. See La Riviera's calendar.

Palacio Vistalegre

A large-format venue that has hosted everything from historic reunions (like Obús's original line-up in 2024) to major international tours. See Palacio Vistalegre's calendar.

Movistar Arena

Address: Salamanca district (Goya / Jorge Juan) Metro: Goya or O'Donnell Capacity: up to around 17,000

The former WiZink Center (renamed in 2025) is the temple of the big names. It's where, for example, Warcry celebrate their 25th anniversary on 9 January 2027. See Movistar Arena's calendar.

Other venues worth keeping on your radar

• Sala Changó (C/ Covarrubias 42, Chamberí): more nightclub than venue, but with occasional rock shows.
• Sala Cool (C/ Isabel la Católica 6, Centro): club and concert room near Santo Domingo.

A note for the nostalgic: the legendary Sala Caracol closed in 2022. Its premises later reopened as Sala Villanos, with a different kind of programme.

Tips for going to gigs in Madrid

• Mind the last metro. It closes around 1:30 am. If the venue is in Vicálvaro or Carabanchel, check the night buses ("búhos") before you leave home.
• Arrive early at small venues. In 300–500 capacity rooms, the front rows fill up during the support acts.
• Bring earplugs. The smaller the venue, the closer you are to the amps.
• Save your gigs. On Metalendario you can mark your favourites and keep them in your calendar so you never miss one.
